What size fits which age?

The age on the label is a starting point, not a guarantee. Kids the same age can be very different sizes, so the notes below matter more than the label alone.
What real fit has looked like for other families
Age labels only tell you so much, so here is what two families reported once their order arrived. One parent ordering for a 4-year-old chose 5-6Y on purpose: "I opted for the 5-6 size and it fits her great with some room to grow." Another ordered 7-8Y rain pants for a 5-year-old who wears a 7 in regular clothes, and found the pants "definitely very long on her" even though they "fit her perfectly in the waist."
Read together: sizing up gives room to grow, but leg length grows with it too. If your child is between sizes, sizing up tends to work well for something worn across a whole season, less well if you need a precise fit right away. This is two data points, not a store-wide sizing rule. If you're unsure, measure your child against a piece of clothing you already know fits before ordering.
What about toddlers?
Little Stanley jackets and pants are not built as a separate toddler line, and infant sizing is out of scope entirely. The smallest size we offer is 4-5Y. We don't have fit reports from families sizing a 3-year-old into it, so rather than guess, measure your child against a 4-5Y garment (ours or a similar brand's) before ordering if they're on the larger side for their age.
Shoe sizing works differently. Do not assume it matches jacket sizing
Walking Pi shoes use a completely different sizing system: numeric sizes from Little Kid 10 through Big Kid 3 (shown as 10, 11, 12, 13, J1, J2, J3 on the product page), matched to your child's actual foot measurement in centimetres or inches, not their age. A child in a 5-6Y jacket will not automatically wear a matching "size 5-6" shoe, because that size does not exist. Measure feet separately using our shoe size chart rather than guessing from jacket size.
